A union territory, the political administration of the NCT of Delhi today more closely resembles that of a #state of India, with its own legislature, #high court and an executive council of ministers headed by a Chief Minister. New Delhi is jointly administered by the federal government of India and the #local government of Delhi, and is the capital of the NCT of Delhi. #Bahai Temple: Situated atop the #Kalkaji Hill. Its distinctive lotus shaped design in Marble. It was built in 1987 by the followers of Bahai faith. The temple signifies the purity and equality of all religions. #Gandhi Smiriti: The Memorial consists of: (a) Visual Aspects to perpetuate the memory of #Mahatma Gandhi and the noble ideals he represented, (b) Educative Aspects to focus concentrated attention on certain values of life that made Gandhi a Mahatma, and (c) Service Aspects to introduce activities in order to subserve certain felt needs. #Rajghat: The simple square platform of black marble marks the place where the father of the Nation, Mahatama Gandhi was cremated. #New Delhi is a multidimensional metropolis sprinkled with glittering gems. The city's sometimes gritty surface gives way to #magnificent museums, #captivating monuments, #a lively arts scene and some of India's #most delectable places to eat. A true melting pot, visitors hear a jumble of languages and dialects spoken throughout the city, including #Punjabi, #Hindi, #Urdu and #English. The capital also mixes the two very different experiences of the “old” and “new” worlds. #Old Delhi reigned as the capital of old Islamic India, while New Delhi was born as the British imperial capital in 1931.#One of the most grandiose sites in New Delhi is the #Rashtrapati Bhavan, home of #India's president. Built by English architects, the palace combines classical columns with unmistakably Indian touches like majestic domes and colorful filigree work. For the most memorable first impression, approach the palace from the east at the India Gate and stroll through the gardens. Crisscrossed by #waterways and refreshing fountains, the gardens are a welcome escape from the hustle and bustle of the city and include whimsical #butterfly enclosures, shady fruit orchards and one of the subcontinent's best collections of Bonsai. For an interesting overview of Indian history, visit the #National Museum, where the labyrinthine layout leads visitors through unparalleled collections featuring true masterpieces from all over the country. The splendid exhibitions include rare silk paintings, detailed woodcarvings, fearsome #Mughal weaponry, sacred Buddhist objects and more. Exploring the museum takes at least half a day, but it is worth it to gain a glimpse into India's fascinating history. Visitors to the city can walk in the footsteps of one of India's most prominent historical figures, #Mahatma Gandhi, and learn about his message of truth and non-violence. The Gandhi Smriti, where the activist spent the last days of his life before his assassination in 1948, is now a multimedia museum featuring well-preserved rooms, photographs, paintings and personal effects. #New Delhi really comes alive in its bazaars. The shopping arcades exude energy, drawing in both locals and tourists.

"숨을 못쉬겠다"… 기준치 40배 초미세먼지에 덮인 뉴델리, 시내 6천여 개 초•중•고교를 휴교 New Delhi, home to more than 17 million people, has been bestowed with the unwelcome tag of being the world's most polluted city in recent years. This week, the Indian capital's chief minister called the city a "gas chamber",… as pollution levels reached over 40 times the World Health Organization's safe limit. Won Jung-hwan has more. The New Delhi government is being urged to declare a city-wide health emergency as residents endured a third straight day of heavy pollution since Tuesday morning. Thick gray clouds of smoke have engulfed the city, and air quality readings have soared up to a peak of 9-hundred-99 micrograms per cubic meter, the highest level that the instruments can measure. One of the health officials said that the level is similar to smoking 50 cigarettes a day. The readings measure the concentration of fine particulate matter, or PM 2.5, which is considered particularly harmful because the particles are small enough to lodge deep into the lungs and pass into other parts of the body, causing serious health risks. New Delhi is considered one of the worst cities in the world for air pollution due to factors such as vehicle emissions and dust from construction sites. But experts also pointed out that air quality often nosedives around this time of year,... as smoke from fireworks set off during Diwali festivals and from crop burnings remains in the air as there's hardly any wind. Last November, about a million children were forced to stay home from school as India's capital struggled with its worst pollution for nearly 20 years. On Wednesday, the New Delhi government again took the step of closing of more than six-thousand schools until Sunday. The Indian authorities have provided the public with air quality updates since 2014, but have so far not implemented strong measures to tackle the problem, such as temporarily banning cars according to the severity of the air pollution. Authorities are floating the idea of introducing an 'odd-even program', which cars with odd or even numbered license plates can use roads on alternating days. Won Jung-hwan, Arirang News. Archival 1980's - early 1990's footage from New Delhi, with a Bajaj scooter, Maruti Gypsy 1000 cc (Suzuki Samurai) Hindustan Ambassador cars travelling to government buildings in the North and South block area and early days Maruti Suzuki vans. A view of people driving on Rajpath with India Gate in the background. Rajpath is the ceremonial boulevard in New Delhi, Republic of India that runs from Rashtrapati Bhavan on Raisina Hill through Vijay Chowk and India Gate to National Stadium, Delhi. The avenue is lined on both sides by huge lawns, canals and rows of trees. Considered to be one of the most important roads in India, the annual Republic Day parade takes place here on 26 January. Janpath crosses the road. Rajpath runs in east-west direction. Roads from Connaught Place, the financial centre of Delhi, run into Rajpath from north. After climbing Raisina Hill, Rajpath is flanked by the North and South Blocks of the Secretariat Building. Finally it ends at the gates of Rashtrapati Bhavan. At Vijay Chowk it crosses Sansad Marg, and the Parliament House of India can be seen to the right when coming from the India Gate. Rajpath itself is the road used on 26 January each year for India's Republic Day Parade. The celebrations of India becoming a republic take place with a showcase of India's cultural diversity and military might. It is also used for funeral processions of key political leaders of India. The opening scene of the movie Gandhi starts at Rajpath. Delhi vs Islamabad city comparison Delhi India Delhi, the capital of India has a strong historical background. It was ruled by some of the most powerful emperors in Indian history. The history of the city is as old as the epic Mahabharata. The town was known as Indraprastha, where Pandavas used to live. In due course eight more cities came alive adjacent to Indraprastha: Lal Kot, Siri, Dinpanah, Quila Rai Pithora, Ferozabad, Jahanpanah, Tughlakabad and Shahjahanabad. Delhi has been a witness to the political turmoil for over five centuries. It was ruled by the Mughals in succession to Khiljis and Tughlaqs. India Gate In 1192 the legions of the Afghan warrior Muhammad of Ghori captured the Rajput town, and the Delhi Sultanate was established (1206). The invasion of Delhi by Timur in 1398 put an end to the sultanate; the Lodis, last of the Delhi sultans, gave way to Babur, who, after the battle of Panipat in 1526, founded the Mughal Empire. The early Mughal emperors favoured Agra as their capital, and Delhi became their permanent seat only after Shah Jahan built (1638) the walls of Old Delhi. Islamabad pakistan The capital city of Pakistan, Islamabad is located in the northwest of the country on Potohar Plateau. This area has been significant in history for being a part of the crossroads of the Rawalpindi and the North West Frontier Province. The city was built in 1960 to replace Karachi as the Pakistani capital, which it has been since 1963. Due to Islamabad's proximity to Rawalpindi, they are considered sister cities. Compared to other cities of the country, Islamabad is a clean, spacious and quiet city with lots of greeneries. The site of the city has a history going back to the earliest human habitations in Asia. This area has seen the first settlement of Aryans from Central Asia, ancient caravans passing from Central Asia, and the massive armies of Tamerlane and Alexander. To the north of the city you will find the Margalla Hills. Hot summers, monsoon rains and cold winters with sparse snowfall in the hills almost summarize the climate of this area. Islamabad also has a rich wildlife ranging from wild boars to leopards. After the formation of Pakistan in 1947, it was felt that a new and permanent Capital City had to be built to reflect the diversity of the Pakistani nation. It was considered pertinent to locate the new capital where it could be isolated from the business and commercial activity of the Karachi, and yet is easily accessible from the remotest corner of the country.
